Crush-Module™

Crush module relating to rockbolt/cable bolts

An independent, replaceable crush-module that adds significant dynamic energy capacity, displacement, and load control to any rockbolt or cable bolt. Designed to keep your ground support performing when seismic conditions push conventional systems to failure.

Key Features

  • Fits around the bolt collar inside the borehole; compatible with most bolts and cables.
  • Dissipates high energy through a patented crush-module cellular structure (20–80+ kJ depending on size).
  • Reduces peak loads on the bolt, preventing rupture and controlling strain rate.
  • Adds significant displacement capacity, enabling bolts to survive large rockmass movements.
  • Operates even if bolt yield is restricted by borehole shearing or squeezing.
  • Fully configurable to meet site-specific performance requirements.
  • Does not compromise bolt properties or installation processes.
  • Visually inspectable.
  • Easily replaceable in-situ if capacity is consumed.

FAQ

Underground mines are exposed to extreme and unpredictable seismic loads that routinely push current rockbolts beyond their limits—causing bolt rupture, safety risks, and costly rehabilitation. Traditional bolts cannot reliably absorb the energy, displacement, and high-speed loading demanded in large seismic events, leaving operations vulnerable to failure, uncertainty, and regulatory consequences.

How Crush-Module™ Solves Seismic Rockbolt Failures

  1. When seismic loads exceed bolt capacity → Crush-Module™ absorbs the excess energy
Large seismic events deliver more energy than bolts can handle. Crush-Module™ dissipates this energy through controlled crush-collapse, preventing overload and bolt failure.

  2. When displacement is too large → Crush-Module™ provides additional movement capacity
Rockmass dilation can exceed a bolt’s elongation limit. Crush-Module™ adds substantial displacement capacity, allowing the support system to move safely without rupturing.

  3. When loads spike to 300–500 kN → Crush-Module™ caps the peak load
During violent events, bolts see extreme force spikes. Crush-Module™ reduces and controls these peak loads, keeping the bolt within a safe working range.

  4. When strain rate is too high → Crush-Module™ slows the load application
High strain rates cause brittle bolt failure. Crush-Module™ stretches the event out in time, lowering strain rate and preventing sudden rupture.

  5. When borehole shearing prevents bolt yield → Crush-Module™ still functions
If a bolt cannot elongate inside the hole, it typically snaps. Crush-Module™ operates independently of bolt movement, continuing to absorb energy even when the bolt is locked.

  6. When engineers can’t see whether capacity is consumed → Crush-Module™ is visibly inspectable and replaceable
Instead of hidden damage inside the borehole, Crush-Module™ shows clear visual evidence of activation and can be easily replaced to restore full dynamic capacity.

  7. When design uncertainty forces over-supporting → Crush-Module™ adds predictable dynamic performance
Its consistent, engineered crush behaviour reduces design uncertainty and enables more efficient, less conservative ground-support patterns.
